Hits: 237

WINTERTHUR. All the teams will be gearing up this morning to play in the second day of preliminaries with everything on the line for the teams in Groups C and D. Yesterday saw the favourites play as expected to win their games in Groups A and B.  For Groups C and D, the two top teams will proceed to double elimination and the bottom three teams will play for the Presidents Cup. The rain will be an additional dimension to today’s play.

All pressure is on Austria to perform

Today’s match between Argentina and Austria sees the south American team the underdogs and the pressure is all on Austria to perform. Argentina played Austria in the semi-final of the 2011 Men’s Fistball World Championship and while Austria ended up winning the game it was a hard-earned win. The crowd will be hoping for a game like this again but Argentina will need to lift their play if they want their first win today. Both teams have the potential to win however and it will be a good game to watch.

Can Chile challenge Brazil?

While Brazil are the favourites for this game the Chilean team played really well in their first game against Switzerland and cannot be discounted. However, with wet weather forecast for the afternoon Chile may struggle to defend the strong attacks from Brazil. With two Latin American fighting for dominance the atmosphere in the stadium will be electrifying and will be an entertaining match on and off the field.

The top two fight for dominance in Group C

Perhaps the most interesting game of the day will be the one played between new comer New Zealand and the Czech Republic and should prove to be a close match. For New Zealand to secure a place in double elimination they will need to beat the current top of the Group today. The game begins at 1515.
